The Boring Man

Wymin

The Man, the Lawyer

Ng Wymin’s story begins in the structured world of law, where he built a career marked by precision, perseverance, and a sharp legal mind. A UK graduate and a respected figure in Malaysia’s corporate and financial sectors, Wymin was known for his no-nonsense approach.

Beyond law, Wymin’s role as a shareholder in the SCP Group reflects his acumen in investment. His ability to dissect market dynamics, assess risks and drive business decisions underscore his methodical yet forward-thinking approach. All these attributes have carved the successful career and businesses that he helms.

Beneath the surface of boardrooms and legal briefs, Wymin felt a quiet yearning—a hunger for something more.

The Man & Photography

Before the discovery of his passion for photography, Wymin loved travelling. He explored countless countries , immersing himself in different rich and diverse cultures and visiting historical and cultural sites. He would carry along a point and shoot compact camera as this, then, was the forgotten era of pre “mobile phone cameras”. Much like any other tourists..

No serious photography … Until 2014, Sabi Sands and Timbavati, South Africa. The late YY Chin, a banker and a dear friend, who is honoured here with special mention as the person responsible for Wymin’s passionate venture into photography, was someone with whom Wymin had worked and travelled on several occasions.YY Chin warned “Once you have been to Africa, you’ll always want to go back!” Wymin embarked on his first safari with little more than curiosity and a basic DSLR camera. He was completely and utterly unprepared. What he found was not just wildlife—it was wonder. The golden savannahs, the raw majesty of lions and elephants, and the quiet drama of nature unfolding before him awakened a passion that would redefine his life.

From that moment, true to YY Chin’s words, Africa became his annual pilgrimage, drawn by the serenity of the land, the sense of adventure in every breeze, the call of the wild and the deep connection to the wild – something so different from his life as a lawyer. With each visit, his love and hunger to return to Africa deepened, so much so he is now laying claim that he was African in his past life – a possibility indeed!

He’s since explored Kenya, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Namibia and Tanzania. He recalls the thrill of spotting lion cubs tumbling in play, the haunting beauty of a predator silhouetted against a blood-orange sunset, and the serenity of the Zambezi River—where he plans to return soon, camera in hand and heart wide open.
Wymin plans to continue his annual pilgrimage to Africa “just to smell the air filled with dung and dust” and to announce that he is again “home”. It is a luxury to escape from life’s routines and something he will never take for granted.

The Man & the Rest of the World

But Wymin’s travels didn’t stop at Africa. He braved the icy winds of Alaska, Antartica and the Arctic despite still battling with sea sickness. He has joined festivals in Venice and Mexico, stepped back in time in Cuba and ancient Egypt, and wandered through temples in Japan and markets in Sri Lanka. (If you are fortunate enough to pin him down, ask him to share one of his many stories with you).

Wherever he travels, Wymin’s camera captures more than just images. From the quiet dignity of a street vendor to the fleeting expression of a worshipper, his lens seeks the soul of a moment. A borrowed Leica M240 eventually swayed him from Canon, deepening his love for street photography and the human stories it tells.

His journey as a photographer is one of self-teaching and relentless curiosity. He learned from fellow photographers, safari guides and the digital world, applying the same discipline that defined his legal career.

But Wymin is still, by his own cheeky admission, a traveller first—and a “stiff-upper-lipped” lawyer who just happen to shoot some rather stunning photos. His pictures reflect both precision and heart: sharp focus of a lawyer and the soul of an artist.

Beyond photography, Wymin is a devoted father to three children, two of whom are on the autism spectrum. When he first discovered that his eldest son, Sean, had autism, he was overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty as a first time father. When his daughter, Tynia, was similarly diagnosed a year later, he was devastated but took it in his stride that he would do everything possible to love, protect and care for his children.

Determined to find a cure, he explored various treatments, and was counselled by experts that autism was not an illness which can be treated but a condition that needed patience, understanding and support to best manage their care so that they would lead fulfilled and meaningful lives.

Wymin’s focus shifted to providing that love and support and to ensuring his children received the best possible education and assistance. His third son, Seth, now a graduate in data science and computer science, plays a big part in support of his elder siblings. Their journey has shaped him profoundly, teaching him resilience, compassion and the true meaning of unconditional love.

And so it was time for him to do his part for this cause and to help other children in need!

The Man & Charity

Today, Wymin’s children are adults, attending a center that supports individuals with special needs. Seeing the incredible impact of such organizations, he felt compelled to contribute— but remained uncertain about how to contribute meaningfully.

For years, friends had nudged him to share his wildlife photographs beyond the occasional Instagram or Facebook posts. The idea of creating a website lingered in his mind, but between his travels, professional commitments, and family responsibilities, it always took a backseat.

Then came the persistent and ever-patient Greg Dall, a longtime friend with a mission to get Wymin to finally exhibit his collection of photographs. Years of prodding and pushing did nothing, so Greg took it upon himself to arrange a meeting with an esteemed wildlife photographer, Captain Sim. The scene is set – a joint exhibition commitment with Captain Sim – was sealed. No backing out now!

As a natural extension of the awareness that was created by the Two Journeymen Exhibition, Wymin decided it was finally time to create a website where people could buy prints of his photographs.

Wymin is finally sharing his photographs with the world—not for fame, but to raise funds for charitable organisations. Every print sold supports a cause that has shaped his own life, with the beneficiaries rotating over time so as to support reaches more needy people.
